4 Must-Have Offroad Equipment for Jeeps

Investing into high quality offroad equipment is a must for every jeep enthusiast. Originally used for military operations, jeeps are now considered as the so-called “toys for the big boys.” But while they are now utilized for a different purpose, this does not change the fact that they are among those vehicles that are often exposed to rough surfaces and experience a total road abuse. As a result, this may lead to frequent repairs or worse, a total replacement. Evidently, this translates to more expenses. Thus, in order to prevent jeep owners from shelling out huge amounts, here is  the list of  offroad equipment where they should readily invest.

  • ·         Shock absorbers  - Shock absorbers dampen or control the vehicle’s oscillations or repetitive movements during unexpected bumps. Because of them, the kinetic energy is evenly distributed thus, helping jeeps to achieve balance. Due to their dampening effect, shock absorbers are likewise referred to as dampers. Depending on one’s needs, different types of dampers are offered into the public. Heavy-duty shocks, for instance, is designed for vehicles that carry heavy load. Standard shocks are also available. Yet, for vehicle owners who prefer a more dynamic shock absorber, they can always use the automatic shock absorbers. These offroad equipment can be easily adjusted based on the jeep’s weight.

  • ·         Suspension lifts  - As mentioned, jeeps are frequently exposed to road abuse. But in order to prolong the life of their most precious vehicles, there are jeep owners that install suspension lifts. Suspension lifts, deliver the so-called “height advantage,” therefore, giving better view to the driver and at the same time, lessening the unforeseen impact between the ground and the vehicle. Height adjustments vary as well. One may choose small suspension lifts which increase their jeep’s height by 1.5 inch. They may also install medium lifts, which, generally provide a 2-inch increase or large lifts if they want to make their jeeps higher by 4 inch.

  • ·         Offroad tires  - Offroad tires are yet another good investment. Compared to other vehicle parts, tires absorb much of the road abuse. This would not come as too much of a surprise since they are the jeep’s most exposed part. Off road tires also come into different categories. They are paddle tires which are specifically used in sand dunes and muddy surfaces. However, when passing through thick mud, mud tires, are more preferred. They have the ability to clean themselves and they do not easily lose traction, therefore, preventing vehicles from sudden swerves and slips. Lastly, if going through icy plains, snow tires, of course, are recommended.

  • ·         Roof racks – Jeeps are versatile. Indeed, that is true. Yet, it cannot be denied that it comes short when it comes to space. In many occasions, the space is occupied by luggage. Therefore, to maximize its capacity owners of jeep offroad may consider installing roof racks into their vehicles.

For some, the above-mentioned offroad equipment are simple modifications. Installing them to jeeps is a plain option. Indeed, they are purely optional, yet their benefits and advantages are way too important to easily ignore.

Get Dirty With Irresistible Offroad Jeeps and Products

Offroad vehicles, to be more specific, jeeps, have a cult-like following. Fully  satisfied and fascinated by their versatility, jeep aficionados and enthusiasts alike spend hefty amounts in modifying their big toys.

Offroad vehicles

Technically speaking, an offroad vehicle is an automobile that can be used both on paved and rough terrains. Its ability to withstand rough roads explains its unwavering popularity. Usually, they have large and big tires, suspensions and in some cases, a trusted track.

Nevertheless, the strong preference for jeeps can be attributed to the fact that it can be used even in ordinary highways. This is in stark contrast with tractors, cranes and bulldozers.

Offroad jeeps

The term “jeep” remained unknown not until the famous cartoonist Elzie Crisler invented the word for the well-loved comic cartoon, Popeye. It was previously described as a small vehicle capable of overcoming the most difficult tracks in the jungle.

Setting aside the historical attribution of the term, jeeps traces its lineage from the early vehicles used during World War I. Basically, it was the army personnel that had the first “jeep experience.” During those times, there was a demand for vehicles that use big tires instead of heavy tracks to infiltrate remote military camps and bases.

Different models of offroad jeeps

From the army camps to challenge race courses, several models of offroad jeeps have been produced. Evidently, they are no longer were they confined and understood as the only mode of transportation for warfare.

  • YJ – YJs are characterized by their square headlights. The use of these square headlights was purely experimental. It replaced the CJ (civilian jeep) model when the latter’s production did not receive much attention from the target market.
  • T J - TJs on the other hand, revived and modified the CJ. True jeeps, as many would call it, used round headlights and for many purists, best resemble jeeps in the truest sense of the word.
  • JK - Meanwhile, JKs are the modern versions of the TJs. Except for the round headlights, JKs in general are bigger than TJs.

Jeep offroad products

The jeeps’ appeal is not limited to the vehicle per se. As mentioned, these automobiles are modified by its owners. Due to this, one can witness a rising demand for jeep accessories and related products such as the following:

  • Bumpers - Bumpers protect the jeep’s safety system. It absorbs much of the impact and tension experienced during unwarranted collisions.

  • Hood louvers – The cage-like exterior that allows the entry of air and light are called hood louvers. They can be either fixed or movable,
    depending on the owner’s preference.

  • Tube fenders – Tube fenders are integral offroad products. It generally supports the front and rear wheel and protects the automobile’s body.

Offroad tires

But of course, some of the jeep offroad  cannot function well without its tires. Compared those used by ordinary cars, offroad tires are made to sustain the vehicle’s grip when maneuvering roads filled with dirt, grass and mud. The problem however with offroad tires is that it easily wears out since it is more exposed to rough road conditions. Thus, when buying one, always look for quality as cheap offroad tires that need to be constantly replaced are more expensive.

Adding storage and maintaining safety with truck roof racks and truck shock absorbers

Contrary to popular opinion, adding modifications or accessorizing is not exclusive  to small automobiles. Even the ones utilized for heavy-duty purposes, such as  trucks, for example, are adjusted to enhance its performance. Two of the most  common accessories added to such vehicles are truck roof racks and truck shock absorbers.

Roof rack 101

Carefully designed bars often seen on top of vehicles are referred to as truck roof racks. These materials are created to create additional storage and maximize the  truck’s capacity, thus providing more available seats to the passenger.

Truck roof racks are either permanent or temporary. The latter, as the name  suggests, can be easily removed if not in use, while the permanent ones are  directly placed into the truck upon its creation. Depending on the individual’s needs  and activities, one can either go for a permanent or temporary truck roof rack.

These functional bars are composed of two important parts, the rails and the  towers. Bars that are often seen at the side of the vehicles are the rails. These are  meant to ensure that cargoes are safely secured in their places. Towers, on the  other hand are attached to rails via clamps. These ensure that the luggages are not
directly placed into the vehicle’s roof, which, in return, could cause damage due to  the heavy weight.

Truck shock absorbers

A shock absorber or damper is another modifications added to trucks. The bumpy  and rough roads encountered by these vehicles often cause an unexpected tension  and impact or worse, destroys other car parts, which, in return, could result to an  accident.

During a sudden encounter with rigid terrains, car parts vibrate and oscillate,  irrespective of whether trucks have springs or not. Due to this, it is hard to achieve  coordination. Dampers, stabilizes the vehicle’s movement, thus, ensuring a safe  and steady ride to the passengers.

Which shock absorber should be used?

A variety of shock absorbers are being offered in the market. These are the  standard shocks, heavy-duty shocks, overload shocks and air shocks. In choosing the best shock absorber, one should know how these car parts function. For ordinary trucks, a standard shock would suffice. However, if the vehicle is  frequently used in rough roads, then consider using a heavy-duty shock. In the meantime, if the vehicle is suffering from understeering, overload shocks can  resolve this problem via providing support in the front and rear systems. Lastly, if  the truck involved is used to carry the heaviest cargoes and equipment, then it is  best to use an air shock

To ensure its durability, maintenance and replacement should be performed as  necessary. If the hydraulic fluid is already coming out, then it should be replaced.  The same thing is true when there is eyelet breakage.

Benefits of roof racks and shock absorbers

Evidently, dampers render driving safety and security, while roof racks promote  comfort and convenience. The marriage of the two results to a more efficient  vehicle. Should cargoes fell from racks due to a sudden bump, it can cause shatter  some of the truck parts. But with shock absorbers at hand, such scenario can be
prevented.
